The Fine Point: From the Ground Up | June 2025
A Monthly Message from President Robert J. Fine, Jr. Featuring Guest Contributor: Juan Garcia, Director of Admissions
When I arrived at SJNA in 2018 after serving as a U.S. Army Drill Sergeant, I was drawn to this place for the same reasons I once felt called to serve: structure, discipline, and the chance to make a real difference in young people’s lives.
At SJNA, students don’t just attend classes — they pursue outcomes. And today, I want to speak directly to the families in our local region, many of whom have never fully explored the incredible opportunities available right here at home.
We hear from families across Wisconsin and the Midwest who are looking for more than what their current schools offer, especially as budget cuts continue to limit programs in leadership, aviation, engineering, and athletics.
Allow me to share just one story that captures what makes SJNA different:
Grace, now a junior, came to us three years ago from a Milwaukee public school. I still remember the day she and her mom stepped onto campus—curious, a bit hesitant, and unsure of what to expect from our structure and uniforms. But it didn’t take long for Grace to find her rhythm. She embraced the challenge, discovered her voice, and grew into a leader who now inspires others daily.
Today, she maintains a high GPA, serves in the Corps of Cadets, runs a campus run club, and was recently inducted into the National Honor Society—accomplishments she once thought were out of reach. Grace’s transformation isn’t just academic. Her confidence, sense of purpose, and leadership ability have flourished here. Watching her growth has been one of the great privileges of my time at SJNA.
And Grace is just one example. Her story reflects what I’ve seen time and time again—students who arrive with potential and leave with purpose. When given structure, support, and a clear path forward, our students rise.
Here’s what that looks like at SJNA:
- Students can earn their private pilot license before graduation through our immersive Aviation program.
- JROTC Corps of Cadets students may qualify for college scholarships and service academy nominations through structured leadership development and our pathway to officership.
- We maintain a 100% college acceptance rate, supporting every student with the tools they need to take the next step confidently.
- Hands-on courses in engineering, robotics, and DME Basketball prepare students for real-world careers and athletic success.
These aren’t just programs — they’re launching pads for life.
If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like behind our gates, now’s the time to take a look. We invite you to:
- Attend a Summer Open House
- Enroll in one or more of our three different Summer Camps
- Tour our campus and speak directly with faculty, staff, and current students
If you’re considering a stronger academic and leadership path for your child, one that builds results, let’s talk. I’d be honored to walk the campus with you, answer your questions, and help you explore what’s possible.
Let’s build it — from the ground up.
With respect and purpose,
Juan Garcia – Director of Admissions
