SJN Debate Team Undefeated at WISDAA Meet

DELAFIELD, Wis. – The St. John’s Northwestern Debate Team delivered an impressive performance at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech & Dramatic Arts Association (WISDAA) Meet on February 25, going undefeated (2-0) in the competition. The team secured a decisive win in the Impromptu Round and a hard-fought victory in the Prepared Round, debating critical topics such as the utility of economic boycotts and the USAID humanitarian program.

Competing against four schools and 24 speakers from across Wisconsin, SJN’s debaters stood out with strong individual performances:

Jack Bickers – Named Best Speaker of the Night in the Prepared Round with 79 points, his highest score of the season. He also placed 3rd in the Impromptu Round with 73 points.

Eve Skatrud – Placed 4th in the Impromptu Round, scoring 72 points in both rounds of competition.

Bryce Girard – Making his debut as a last-minute alternate, Girard stepped in with little preparation and was named 5th best speaker in the Impromptu Round, also scoring 72 points.

This victory brings SJN’s regular-season record to 4-4, marking a strong comeback from earlier defeats in January. The team now awaits confirmation on whether they will qualify for the State Meet in April.

As SJN continues to build a Foundation for Life through leadership and academic excellence, the Debate Team’s success highlights the school’s commitment to developing confident, well-spoken, and informed students.
