SJN Debate Team Claims Bronze Medal at WISDAA State Meet
DELAFIELD, Wis. – On April 11, the St. John’s Northwestern Debate Team brought home the Bronze Medal at the Wisconsin State Debate Festival (WISDAA), held at the University of Wisconsin. The team—Jack Bickers, Eve Skatrud, and Carl Swanson—earned a third-place finish statewide, concluding their 2024–2025 season with distinction.
This year’s topics include mandatory instruction on apps in elementary schools and the Great Lakes–St. Lawrence River Basin Water Resources Compact—challenged students to demonstrate critical thinking, research, and public speaking under pressure. The SJN team rose to the challenge, showcasing the academic excellence and poise that define the student experience at St. John’s Northwestern.
Senior Jack Bickers was additionally recognized as the 6th best individual speaker at the competition, closing out a decorated debate career that includes both a state gold and a bronze medal.
At SJN, programs like the debate team are more than extracurricular activities—they are essential elements of our mission to keep students’ “Future Aspirations in Mind.” Through public speaking, analytical reasoning, and civic engagement, students gain lifelong skills that prepare them for college, careers, and leadership opportunities beyond graduation.
