COVID Winter Sports Update

Swimming

Spectators
SJNA will not exceed 25% of capacity, including social distancing between seats of six feet.

Face coverings
Face coverings must be worn upon arrival to the school and throughout warmups and while on the swimming deck. Swimmers will remove masks while competing in the pool. Coaches, team personnel and game workers will be required to wear face coverings throughout the contest.

Water
Each athlete should have their own water bottle labeled clearly with their name.

Locker/Team room
Locker room will be provided to change before the meet and after the meet.

Basketball

Spectators

  • A majority of conference schools will be offering live stream services for all inside events.

Team Benches

  • Limit the number of bench personnel to observe social distancing of 6 feet or greater.
  • Personnel not in the game will be required to wear masks

Water
Each athlete should have their own water bottle labeled clearly with their name.

Hygiene considerations

  • Restrooms will be available to use at each location.
  • Athletes should bring their own towel.
  • Game balls should be sanitized during timeouts and at halftime of each game.

Locker/Team room

  • A changing room will be provided.
  • Athletes should bring their bags with them to the team bench area.

Concessions
Concession sales will be a local decision. Only prepackaged items will be available

Event Management
SJNA will have a common announcement that will be read about social distancing and masks required prior to, during and after games.

Wrestling

Return to Competition Considerations

  • Have hand sanitizer and wipes available at the table.
  • Wash stations or sanitizer at mat side.
  • Disinfect the mats prior to competition.

Considerations for Wrestlers

  • Eliminate handshakes pre- and post-match.

Officials

Officials Considerations

  • Officials should monitor their conditions before arriving. Take your temperature before you leave for an event. Anything over 100.4° is considered unacceptable and you are to notify the school that you will not be attending.
  • Locker rooms will not be provided for the officials to change in prior to and after the events.
  • Per State of Wisconsin and school mandates, a cloth face covering, or face mask must be worn by officials. The officials will provide their own cloth face covering or face mask. Officials should use a cloth face covering or face mask when they arrive at a contest, during coaches’ meetings, during the coin toss [as required by sport], during the contest and when they leave a contest.
  • Officials should follow social distancing guidelines before, during and after the event.
  • Officials should avoid handshakes. Examples include:
    • When meeting with coaches before the contest
    • When introducing captains during the coin toss
    • When meeting with scorers and/or timers
    • When meeting with game management
  • The officials are required to provide their own water, water bottles or sport drinks.
  • When applicable, do not wet your needle to inflate or check a game ball.
